Domain age isn’t website age.

A domain can be registered for years before a website goes live, and a website can be rebuilt many times on the same domain. BuiltWhen keeps these dates apart.

Domain registration
When someone registered the name. The website can’t be older than this, but it’s often much younger.
Website launch
The first evidence of a real website — not a parking or “coming soon” page. This is what website age is measured from.
Current version
When the site you see today appeared, found by comparing archived versions for redesigns and platform changes.

Frequently asked questions

When was my website built?

Enter your address above. BuiltWhen looks for the earliest archived copy of your homepage, checks the domain registration, and compares old versions to find redesigns. You get an estimated launch month with a confidence level and the evidence behind it.

How can I find when a website was created?

The most reliable public signal is the first time a web archive captured real content on the site. Domain registration sets a lower limit, and copyright years, sitemaps and published dates can support the estimate. BuiltWhen combines these and shows each one.

How old is a website?

BuiltWhen measures website age from the estimated launch date to today. If there isn't enough evidence to estimate a launch, it says so instead of showing a number.

Can you find an old version of a website?

Yes. Every report links to the archived copies it used, including the first one and the copies before and after each detected redesign.

Can domain age tell me when a website was built?

No. A domain is often registered months or years before a website goes live, and a domain can change owners. Registration only tells you the earliest a site could have launched.
